Lord of the Waffle House

Okay... this is one of those "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" things. I'm certainly not arguing that I'm right in this case. It's just one of those moments that I find amusing.

There we were, my significant other and me, watching Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. TBS was playing The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers back to back, over and over this weekend. (I'm not complaining.) I assume they are getting ready to have a "network premier" of The Return of the King.

Anyway, I was watching intently while SWRPMO was doing who-knows-what in the kitchen. Big fight scene with some nasty Orcs. The good guys win the battle, but one of the heroes, Aragorn, gets stuck to an Orc's Warg (no , that's not as dirty as it sounds) and ends up being drug over a huge cliff.

"What happened?", she asks coming in from the kitchen.
"Aragorn just went over the cliff."
"Aragorn. Is he the cute one?"
"No, he's the one with the stringy hair and scruffy beard."
Puzzled look.
"The one in love with the Elf girl", I continue.
"Oh, yes. He's the cute one."

Okay, I'm, no Jake Gyllenhaal. And maybe I don't fully understand what constitutes cuteness. But when you've got a bunch of Hobbits and Elves running around, I just don't see how you can call Aragorn "the cute one". Even Gimli the dwarf is arguably cuter than Aragorn. At least he occasionally runs a comb through his hair and beard.

Of course, we all know who the really cute one is.

The Pair of Crabapples Experiment

Anyone remember The Alan Parsons Project? No, not Dr. Evil's plan in the Austin Powers movie. Wait, I've heard your mix CDs. I'm sure a couple of you do. And even if you don't know the name, the music is everywhere. But that's beside the point. Alan Parsons Project

Kudos to Jill and her wonderful idea for her b-day present. And extra kudos for sharing the results with the rest of us.

One small request... how about track lists? Title/Artist thingies. There are a few (a-hem) that even I with my professed ecclectic appreciation and rich diversity of taste didn't recognize. (I *was* born a poor black child. Yo!)

I made it through Pink Panther's (we must shorten that...Pink? P? Pink P? ), POCs, and Lunafish's between my ride home yesterday and ride back this morning. Yes, my drive-time is that long. A lot of pleasant surprises. A couple of guilty pleasures. And I know you put that song on there just for me (You know who you are and which song I'm talking about.) I'm touched. ;)
And that settles it. I'm ready to go on a road trip with any of you knowing we wouldn't drive each other crazy with music choices.

SPT 11, Vanity

So why do you think they call it a "vanity" anyway?

I'm not really that self-conscious about such, but it struck me how "large" my evening ritual has gotten.

I know, I know...it's nothing compared to the efforts women go through.
